A 77-year-old Irvine woman has been identified as the victim of an apparent murder-suicide this week on UC Irvine’s campus, sheriff’s officials said Wednesday.
Authorities were investigating the death of Thao Thai Nguyen, whose body was found on campus around 4 p.m. Tuesday, as a homicide, according to Orange County Sheriff’s Department spokesperson Sgt. Scott Steinle.
Her cause of death is pending an autopsy, Steinle said.
Nguyen was found alongside 36-year-old Andrew Nguyen Doan, who Steinle identified as the suspect in this case. He died of “external trauma,” Steinle said. Additional circumstances surrounding his exact cause of death, or motive in the apparent crime, were not immediately provided.
Authorities said Tuesday evening that the two were related to each other in some way, but details on what that relationship was remained unclear Wednesday afternoon.
No other suspects are being sought, Irvine Police spokesperson Sgt. Davies said.
