Miguel’s Jr. has opened in Santa Ana, the fifth restaurant in Orange County for the Corona-based chain.
The restaurant, which celebrated its grand opening on Sept. 26, takes the place of a former Burger King at 1766 East McFadden Ave. near the Santa Ana Metrorail station.

Miguel’s Jr. sells a variety of “homestyle” Mexican food for dine-in, take-out, drive-thru or even online ordering. Hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.
The Santa Ana location is the 22nd restaurant for the fast-food Mexican food chain.

Philanthropy luncheon is Oct. 20
Santa Ana-based Illumination Foundation will host its third annual Women’s Philanthropy Luncheon on Friday, Oct. 20 at the Waterfront Beach Resort in Huntington Beach.

Hallie Jones is the new executive vice president and chief program officer at Crystal Cove Conservancy. She has 20 years of experience and will work on expanding the conservancy’s kindergarten through college STEM education programs. Jones recently served as the executive director of the Laguna Canyon Foundation, and previously spent over a decade in marine conservation at Santa Monica-based Heal the Bay before joining Laguna Canyon Foundation as executive director in 2013.
Vanguard University in Costa Mesa announced three recent staffing changes. Michael Shurance has joined the school as associate vice president of graduate and professional strategy and enrollment. Stacey Sandeford-Lyons has been named dean of student success and academic services and Joanne Van Boxtel (VU Class of ’99) has been hired as associate professor and faculty director of special education.
Lana Erlanson has joined the nonprofit Radiant Futures, formerly Women’s Transitional Living Center, as the Fullerton-based nonprofit’s director of development. Most recently, Erlanson was manager of corporate relations and foundations at Habitat for Humanity of Orange County.

Annette Walker, president of City of Hope Orange County, was appointed board chair at CEO Leadership Alliance Orange County. Mark Percy was named the new chief executive of the nonprofit, replacing CLAOC co-founder Douglas A. Wilson. Wilson will continue to serve on the CLAOC board and as chair of the National Talent Collaborative. CLAOC is a coalition of 55 CEOs working together to solve the county’s most urgent problems.
Ashley Powers and Debra Baetz were appointed to the board of directors at the Speech and Language Development Center in Buena Park. Powers is vice president of client services for One Digital, and Baetz is interim director for the county’s Health Care Agency.
Merger for 2 Orange County kids clubs
The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Orange Coast (BGC of Central OC) and Youth Employment Service (YES) have merged.
The organization’s combined goal is to offer more workforce readiness resources, professional networks and expanded strategies for employers. The merger also allows the combined club to create two new offerings: YES Workforce Development for young adults and YES Workforce Solutions for employers seeking a pool of qualified entry-level candidates.
YES’ six board members have subsequently joined the BGC of Central OC board. They are Zeshaan Younus, Kaleigh Causey, Alison Salsbury, Sarah Recalde, Jordan Eakin and Meline Carranza.

Good works
Santa Ana-based Working Wardrobes raised $430,000 during its annual gala. “The Power of the Ripple Effect” held at the Turnip Rose Promenade and Gardens in Costa Mesa. Guests heard from a former WW client and Army veteran who shared her story about entering the civilian workforce with help from the nonprofit.
At least 1,200 families and individuals participated in Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County’s second annual Walk to Feed OC on Sept. 9, raising $300,000 or the equivalent of nearly 15 truckloads of food for the Food Bank. At the Walk to Feed OC, participants walked about 1.5 miles through the grounds at Tanaka Farms in Irvine.
The fourth annual Rosé on the Bay fundraiser raised $24,000 to support the nonprofit KidWorks. The money will support KidWorks college and career programs.
The Ecology Center’s 15th annual Green Feast held Sept. 16 raised $400,000 to support the center, a 28-acre regenerative organic farm and education center in San Juan Capistrano.
The Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar’s recent Maui Strong fundraiser held Sept. 17 in Newport Beach raised $70,000 to support the Maui Strong Fund.
