Passengers at John Wayne Airport were forced to deplane on Tuesday, Jan. 10, after one of an engine began smoking on departure, according to airport spokesperson Annasophia Servin.
Delta Airlines flight 447 to Atlanta was about to take off when it reported smoke coming from the Boeing 757’s right engine around 1:25 p.m., Servin said. The airport fire crew responded and the plane was towed back to the gate. No injuries occurred.

Passengers were set to be rebooked on another flight, she added. There were no disruptions to airport operations.
It was not immediately clear what caused the smoke and to what extent the aircraft may have been damaged.
